Implant Supported Dentures in Melbourne
Our Essendon dental practice offers implant supported dentures to patients visiting us from Keilor, Strathmore, Moonee Ponds and Niddrie, as well as local Essendon people. Our implant supported denture offerings include All On 4 implants, All On 6 implants, snap-on dentures and single or multiple implants.
We offer two different implant supported denture solutions, both of which allow patients to have artificial teeth which look and feel like natural teeth. Implant supported dentures don’t move around the mouth like traditional dentures, and they are more comfortable to wear.
In addition, implant dentures are much easier to maintain than conventional dentures.
For all patients coming to our clinic for implant supported dentures, the overall aim is to have you:
- eating better
- speaking more clearly
- smiling with confidence again.
What are dental implants, and why do I need them?
When patients have lost some or all of their teeth, wearing traditional dentures becomes more difficult because there is nothing to support them. When traditional dentures have no support, they can slip around or move while talking and eating.
For patients in these situations, we offer implant dentures. An implant comprises:
- a titanium alloy screw attached to the jawbone underneath the gum
- an abutment (a small hook attached to the screw)
- an artificial tooth (a denture, crown or bridge).
Our Implant Procedure link details how we affix implants to patients in a two-stage process.
Removable Implant Supported Dentures (Snap-on Dentures)
Fixed implants are a permanent solution to restoring your smile and improving the function of your teeth. Other terms for fixed implants include All On 4 or All On 6 (All On Four or All On Six).
When you come to our Essendon dental practice for fixed implant supported dentures, our experienced dentists will place four (or six) implants onto each jaw. Once the implants have successfully integrated into the jawbone, the dentist affixes a complete row of artificial teeth onto each jaw.
Each tooth making up the fixed implant supported denture is customised to match the natural look of your mouth. Another benefit of implant dentures following the All On 4 approach is that they often restore the soft tissue contour of the gums.
If you’re interested in committing to a permanent denture solution after wearing conventional dentures, you’re in good hands at our Essendon dental clinic.
Often known as ‘snap-on dentures’, these customised dentures snap onto your implants once they have successfully integrated into your jawbone. Compared to conventional dentures, there is less friction on gum tissue when wearing snap-on dentures.
Snap-on dentures have special attachments which firmly hook into the implant abutments, providing solid retention. Snap-on dentures work successfully on both top and bottom jaws.
We affix four dental implants for removable implant-supported dentures to a top jaw. However, we find only two implants are generally sufficient for removable implant supported dentures on the bottom jaw.
To improve the look and feel of your removable implant supported dentures, our dentists can create milled bars to join the implants.
If you’re a patient looking to preserve the structure and function of your jaw while moving on from traditional dentures, snap-on dentures may be a good choice for you.

Benefits of Implant Supported Dentures
Fixed or removable implant dentures restore both function and appearance to your mouth. So you’ll be able to enjoy your favourite foods and be confident in smiling again.
Another benefit of having implant dentures is that your speech should improve. There will be no more slurring of words due to ill-fitting traditional dentures.
Do my existing teeth, bone and gums need to be in good shape?
We will assess your jawbone, gum tissue and existing teeth to work out if you’ll be a good candidate for successful implant supported dentures. We will also refer to your goals when evaluating your suitability for implants, and we will customise a plan for you.
Your jawbone needs to be able to support the implant, but implants can also improve the strength of the jawbone over time. Teeth (artificial or natural) apply pressure to the jawbone and each other, improving the jawbone’s health.
We will assess your gums for evidence of periodontitis (gum disease), and we will treat the condition.
We may assess your remaining teeth as not being suitable to support dentures. If this is the case, we will extract the relevant tooth or teeth before affixing the implants.
You may also be suitable for a permanent bridge solution, comprising either zirconia or acrylic teeth.
- extract teeth
- affix implants
- place a temporary acrylic bridge for 6-12 months while the gum and bones heal.
We will partner with you so that you can regain structure, function and appearance with implant supported dentures. We want you to enjoy your favourite foods again, smiling all the way.
