Treatment options for Peg Laterals at our Melbourne dental clinic in Essendon
If one or both of your incisor teeth have not developed properly, you may have a condition referred to as peg laterals. At our Melbourne dental clinic in Essendon, we offer multiple options for the treatment of peg laterals to ensure we give you a smile you know you should have always had.
What are peg laterals?
Peg laterals are a condition in which the tooth on either side of the front upper teeth (called the maxillary lateral incisor) does not develop correctly. It is small and sometimes pointed, looking like an inverted cone or peg (hence the term peg laterals). There are many reasons why it develops this way, but genetics play a key role.
Technically, it is a form of microdontia. Microdonita refers to any tooth that may have developed to appear smaller than normal.
Treatment options for peg laterals
Before proceeding with any treatment options for peg laterals, it‘s crucial to assess the condition of your teeth. We need to determine if there is enough space between the front teeth and the canine to accommodate a normal-sized tooth. If there is not sufficient space, then orthodontic options like braces or Invisalign may be considered. Once enough space has been created, we can then proceed with treatments such as composite veneers, porcelain veneers , or dental crowns.
